Getting Brian Back on the Road to Healthy Living

Brian had never had trouble keeping weight off, and in fact, he’d always been thin—about 140 pounds. But then his career as a long-distance truck driver made it more challenging to exercise and stick to healthy meals. Eventually, he saw his weight increase to 210 pounds.

“Over so many years, I just got used to eating fast food in truck stops,” he said. “I gained a bunch of weight and my hormones were all messed up, and I started feeling tired all the time.”

On top of that, he had trouble focusing. “I’ve been playing guitar since I was 14 years old—one of the things I love to do—and my brain was so foggy that I’d just forget things I’d played 100 times. I knew something was wrong.”

Brian and his wife, Janet—also a client of Wisconsin Institute of Functional Medicine—have been driving truck long distance for 25 years and are on the road five days per week. “My wife drives during the day and I drive at night.”

Brian had watched Janet lose more than 100 pounds by working with Dr. Tracy Page and participating in the Lighten-Up Membership program. “I was skeptical—I didn’t think she’d have the results that she did,” Brian said. “But it was kind of hard to be skeptical after a few months.”

“I was just watching her weight disappear in front of my eyes, and I said, ‘You know what? I’m going to go.’ And it was the best decision I’ve made in a long time.”

BRIAN’S JOURNEY

Brian’s first visit with Dr. Page was an awakening: “She was the first doctor in all of my life to actually take the time to go through my blood results line-by-line, and also tell me why my results were the way they were—and how to fix them.”

Dr. Page offered advice on foods to eliminate while he traveled, and how to add healthy sources of protein. “We have a refrigerator inside the truck, so we buy pre-made salads,” Brian said. “We would just stock up on healthy foods—salads, carrots, things like that. Since I went in to see Dr. Page, I’ve completely changed how I eat.”

That’s not to say it was easy to break old habits at first, “but I just stuck with it and listened to everything she told me, and I started seeing results,” said Brian, whose weight loss also was facilitated by peptide injections.

Over about 12 months, Brian has seen his blood test results improve during each visit. “I’ve gotten healthy, my weight went down, and when Dr. Page did the hormone replacement, the difference in my thinking and in my energy level was tremendous—so much better!”

“It’s amazing—it’s been worth every penny we’ve spent because she’s given us our health back,” Brian said. “It’s something that I didn’t think would happen. When you get to be 50 years old, you think ‘It is what it is, there’s nothing I really can do about it.’ We both tried different diets, different exercise plans, and we had very limited results—until we went and saw her.”
